Jaunt to Quebec City

Poutine and a beer, hoser
Originally uploaded by birdahonk
Kerry and I took a little road trip up to Quebec City back in mid may. We have plenty of photos on flickr. I considered using one of my many beautiful photos of the architecture in the Old City, but when it came down to it, the beer and poutine seemed more appropriate.

We spent on day touring the Old City, another day shopping, and the last day visiting the big waterfall and touring a nearby island with lots of cider tasting at cideries (yes, that's the apple version of winery). We stayed at a great B&B in the perfect location. It's called Gîte aux Deux Lions. It was a really nice place just a 15 minute walk from the old city and 5 minutes from the shopping. The proprietor, Jean-Francois was a fantastic host (we gave him and his B&B a great review on TripAdvisor). We highly recommend it ti anyone considering a trip.

Ken Andrews @ The Paradise Lounge

For those of you familiar with the band Faliure, you may not be aware that former front man Ken Andrews is still hard at work. Kerry and I had the opportunity to catch his show last night at The Paradise Lounge. I can't believe I got to see this show in such a small venue--there had to be less than 100 people there. We had awesome birds-eye view seats from the balcony directly in front of the stage. Another great band, First Wave Hello (a band I just learned about) opened for Ken and then backed him for his entire set.

It was an awesome show. Ken is a big time producer and mixes many albums now adays so it was great to see him back at music making. He mixed the lates FWH album and while they were playing we stepped into the sound both (which we were sitting right next to) and helped mix some of the sound. We realized how serious this guy is when he broke out his calculator to determine the right mix for the band's sound. Pretty funny to see, but hey, it worked. I posted photos on flickr (using the crappy camera on my RAZR).

Brazil in September

I finally got around to uploading the pictures from our Brazil trip in September up on flickr (hey, 6 months late is better than never, right). We had a blast and got some great photos, except for some that were crappy quality (takeaway: buy a nice camera). We decided not to bring our own camera just in case a local decided to liberate it from us.

We bought a house

Carriage House
Originally uploaded by birdahonk
Well, we bought a house. We got close to buying one but then decided it just wasn't going to be a good long term decision. So we kept looking and we found this awesome place in Somerville. It's a one bedroom loft/condo space. There are only two units in the building and we have the top floor. The kitchen, dining, and living areas are open like a loft space. It also has an upstairs loft area that looks down on the living area.

We close on June 19th. We can't wait to move in!

Our New Site

So, Kerry and I decided to consolidate to a single site to talk about what we're up to and where we've traveled. the name, birdarru, is a merger between my site [birdahonk.com] and Kerry's site [lerru.com]--Hence, birdarru.com.

I've moved over some of the house and vacation posts from my site, and all of the new stuff will go here.

Enjoy.

(Note: I've purposely backdated this post so I can keep the imported posts from my site in tact.)
